Vox Leader Santiago Abascal to Hold Public Rally in Estepona Ahead of November Elections

Santiago Abascal, the leader of Vox, has made bold accusations against the Spanish government, asserting that they are ‘willing to lie and kill’ as he commenced his electoral campaign for the upcoming general election on November 29. During a rally held in Estepona, Abascal warned voters against casting their ballots by mail, implying that Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez could exploit this method to manipulate the election outcome.

Abascal characterized Sanchez as the ‘direct culprit’ behind the current turmoil in Spain, predicting that his ‘militias’ would soon embark on a ‘violent campaign.’ He stated, ‘We are not exaggerating in the slightest,’ emphasizing the severity of the situation.

The rally, attended by approximately 1,500 supporters, marked Abascal’s first significant public address since the announcement of the snap election by Sanchez. The socialist Prime Minister’s decision has been influenced by rising tensions surrounding Spain’s housing crisis, which has prompted extensive protests across the nation for over two weeks.

In his speech, Abascal attributed both the housing crisis and a recent surge in migration in Ceuta to Sanchez’s leadership. He also criticized the planned general strike on November 11, labeling the organizing unions as ‘a syndicate of crime.’ Joined by Manuel Gavira, the second vice-president of Andalucia, Abascal’s rhetoric included severe accusations against PSOE officials, calling them ‘vultures’ and ‘thieves.’

As Vox’s support has increased, recent polls indicate the party could secure a record 18.9% of the vote, potentially translating into 66 parliamentary seats and a chance to form a right-wing coalition government. Vox’s campaign focuses on three primary policies: remigration, administrative deregulation, and a ‘national priority’ plan, which prioritizes Spanish citizens for public services and benefits over immigrants. These proposals have faced backlash from human rights organizations, with critics labeling them as discriminatory and detrimental to social cohesion.
