The Estepona City Council has launched the second phase of its climate control initiative for local schools, which includes the installation of 35 new heating and cooling units aimed at enhancing classroom comfort throughout the year. This phase involves an investment of €64,000.
Maria Aguilar, the councilor responsible for Education, noted that the installation work has already commenced, with the goal of completing the project before the start of the next academic year. This timeline ensures that schools will have the new climate control systems in place at the beginning of classes.
Aguilar specified that this phase will see installations at several schools, including Valeriano López, Víctor de la Serna, Nuestra Señora del Carmen, Santo Tomás de Aquino, Gloria Fuertes, and Ramón García, as well as at municipal nursery schools Los Pitufos, El Mar, and Calancha.
This initiative continues the city’s earlier climate control plan, which aims to gradually equip classrooms lacking these essential systems with adequate heating, ventilation, and cooling. “We are making progress to ensure that our educational institutions provide suitable temperature and comfort levels for both students and teachers, especially during the warmer months,” Aguilar emphasized.
The councilor also reminded the public that a first phase of the plan was successfully completed, involving the purchase and installation of around 50 climate control units at a cost of €60,000. This second phase addresses the remaining needs identified across various educational facilities in the city.
Aguilar highlighted the importance of these improvements in creating more conducive learning environments for students and teachers. “Our commitment is to continue adding these systems wherever necessary and to enhance the facilities of public educational centers in the city,” she stated.
Additionally, Aguilar noted that the City Council has made a historic investment of over €800,000 to upgrade 18 educational institutions, including schools and nursery facilities. Beyond routine maintenance, significant projects are underway, such as the complete renovation of restrooms and exterior galleries, improvements to playgrounds and sports courts, refurbishments of grandstands and walls, and updates to various flooring and wall coverings.
Laminate flooring is also being installed in classrooms and safety flooring in playgrounds at several schools and nurseries. Through these combined efforts, the City Council continues its commitment to enhancing educational spaces, aiming to create safer, more functional environments tailored to the needs of the educational community.
