The Estepona Town Hall has announced plans to invest nearly €900,000 in upgrading beach modules for restrooms and lifeguard services, along with the installation of concrete walkways at all public beach access points.

Blas Ruzafa, the Deputy Mayor for Services and External Control, stated that the municipality aims to significantly improve these facilities in the coming months to better serve beachgoers.

The project includes the procurement and installation of six lifeguard modules, nine restroom modules, and one storage module, which will be strategically placed across Arroyo Vaquero, El Cristo, La Rada, Saladillo, El Padrón, and Paseo Marítimo beaches. The contract for this work has a base budget of €421,685, including VAT.

The new lifeguard modules will enhance surveillance of swimmers and emergency response while providing resting areas for lifeguards. The storage module is designed to securely store rescue equipment, accessibility aids, amphibious chairs, and stretchers close to the water.

Additionally, the upgraded restrooms will feature toilets, sinks, foot showers, and various accessories, with specially designed spaces for individuals with reduced mobility, including access ramps to promote universal accessibility.

Constructed from durable materials suitable for coastal environments, the modules will be fully equipped with electrical and plumbing installations. The exterior design will predominantly feature white with blue vinyl accents, including the Estepona coat of arms, while one restroom module will have a wooden finish to blend in with local beach bar aesthetics.

Moreover, the Town Hall has approved the procurement process for the supply and installation of prefabricated concrete walkways at all public beach access points. This improvement aims to enhance accessibility year-round, facilitating the movement of individuals with reduced mobility from the promenade or coastal corridor to both dry and wet sandy areas, as well as to the restroom and lifeguard modules. Notably, the new concrete walkways will be wider than the existing ones, measuring 1.80 meters.

As part of this initiative, the current wooden walkways, which need to be dismantled after each summer season and often suffer damage from storms, will be replaced. The concrete walkways will offer greater durability and resistance to the wear from beach cleaning machinery, significantly reducing maintenance needs.

In total, 1,250 linear meters of concrete walkways will be installed across various public beach access points in the municipality.

The contract, with a base bidding budget of €457,259 (including VAT), also includes the installation of 42 new drainage platforms for showers and foot showers, as well as 40 platforms for the beach modules.

These enhancements will complement the new lifeguard towers that were installed last summer, bringing the total to 17 new structures placed at La Rada, El Cristo, El Padrón, El Saladillo, and Arroyo Vaquero.

Blas Ruzafa emphasized that these new contracts are part of the ongoing effort to modernize coastal facilities and improve the services available to residents and visitors at the municipality’s beaches.
