The Costa del Sol experienced another alarming shooting incident early Sunday morning when a gunman fired shots from a moving Audi on the AP-7 motorway near Estepona.

According to the 112 emergency services, the shooting occurred around 12:40 AM at kilometer 151. Despite the swift response from the Guardia Civil and Policia Nacional, the assailant’s vehicle managed to escape the scene before law enforcement could apprehend it. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and this incident adds to a troubling trend of gun violence in the region over the past month. Notably, on September 22, Ümit Yalçin, a Turkish football ultra and alleged drug lord known as ‘The Gypsy,’ survived an assassination attempt in Malaga while dining at a restaurant. A gunman approached his table and opened fire, although sources indicate that Yalçin has been involved in organized crime since moving to Spain in 2024.

Days prior, a 20-year-old named Nacho was fatally shot in a daylight attack in Malaga’s Barcenillas neighborhood, reportedly carried out by three Swedish hitmen linked to a drug gang. Investigators determined that Nacho was not involved in organized crime, suggesting the attack may have been a case of mistaken identity. Additionally, a shooting in Marbella earlier this month left a Dutch man injured, with three arrests made in connection to a supposed dispute among drug-trafficking organizations.

The recent uptick in violence has led police to enhance their presence across Malaga, with Policia Nacional conducting increased checks in various locations as part of their ongoing efforts to address organized crime and related offenses.
