This weekend, visitors to Estepona’s Botanical Orchid Park can enjoy a groundbreaking audio-visual experience where living orchids will create music based on their own electrical activity. The event, titled *Escuchar lo invisible* (Listening to the Invisible), will debut on Sunday, October 25, at 10 a.m. and is set to remain in the park permanently, allowing guests to experience it even if they miss the opening.
According to Estepona’s town hall, this innovative project highlights the bioelectrical impulses produced by orchids in response to various environmental factors such as light, humidity, temperature, and human interaction. Artist Alejandro Fernandez, who developed the project, explained that sensors on the plants continuously monitor these changes, translating them into sound characteristics like tone, pitch, and rhythm.
Each orchid acts as a unique instrument, contributing to a generative composition that evolves in real time and never repeats. Alongside the music, a central screen will display digital representations of different orchid species, synchronized with the sound.
In conjunction with this premiere, Estepona will also host its 11th Orchid and Collector’s Plant Fair on Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25. The fair will feature a variety of stalls with unique plants, including carnivorous species and succulents, as well as orchid-themed jewelry. Entry to the fair is free, but workshops inside the park require a ticket (€5 for adults, €3 for seniors and disabled individuals) and advance reservations due to limited seating.
Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to experience the intersection of nature and art at Estepona’s Botanical Orchid Park.
