Estepona will welcome climbers of all ages on October 24 and 25 for the Andalucian Lead Climbing Championship, part of the 2026 Andalucian Cup series. The event will take place at the Estepona climbing wall, with competitions running from 8 AM to 10 PM on Saturday and from 7:45 AM to 5:30 PM on Sunday.

Organized by the local climbing club Grupo de Montaña Estepona (GRUME) in collaboration with the Andalucian Mountain, Climbing and Hiking Federation (FADMES) and Estepona Town Hall, the championship features participants ranging from under-9s to veterans. Competitors will engage in various categories, including an open division and a Promotion category for athletes who have not achieved a podium finish in the past two years.

Younger climbers in the under-9, under-11, and under-13 categories will utilize a “top rope” system for safety, while those aged 15 and older will compete in formats known as “flash” and “a vista.” In the flash format, climbers can receive prior information about the climbing route, whereas the a vista format challenges them to attempt climbs without any preview.

Registration for the championship ends on October 16, and contestants must possess a valid annual license from either FADMES or the Spanish mountaineering federation, FEDME, to qualify for podium placements and Cup points. The climbers will then advance to the final Cup round in Huelva in November.

For those interested in spectating rather than competing, a charity bar will be available throughout the event. Additional details can be found on the Estepona Town Hall website.
