Estepona is calling for mural artists to contribute to the transformation of the Centro Cultural Padre Manuel, with seven commissions available and a total prize pool of €10,000.
The town hall has initiated a national competition aimed at enhancing the interior of the cultural centre. Both local and visiting artists are invited to submit their creative concepts by the deadline of November 20.
Each of the seven murals will be associated with a specific theme that corresponds to activities offered at the centre, including chess, dance, theatre, painting, literature, the library, and music. Artists are required to ensure their proposals are original and fit the designated themes and spaces.
The competition is open to artists, muralists, art students, and groups aged 18 and older. Participants can enter designs for multiple categories, but an individual or collective can only win one prize.
Prize amounts vary by category, with dance and music each offering €1,650, while painting and library themes provide €1,200 each. The chess, theatre, and literature categories each offer a prize of €900. These amounts are gross and are meant to cover both the design and execution of the murals.
A jury will evaluate the submissions based on artistic merit, originality, suitability for the site, feasibility, and how well each design aligns with its theme.
Artists must include a portfolio and a detailed dossier for each mural proposal, featuring a color sketch, a photomontage of the work in its intended location, a concept statement, and information on the techniques and materials planned for use.
All applications should be submitted to the Estepona Town Hall by 10 am on Friday, November 20, 2026, with the completion of the selected murals anticipated between December 14 and 18. Further details about the competition, including theme descriptions and technical specifications for the spaces, can be found through the announcement from Estepona Town Hall.
